Put in probably about 1/2 cup of apple cider (cause I don't use sugar in it- you can use apple juice or sugar to taste) and because i like mine with cinnamon I put a couple of shakes of cinnamon in the pot- I usually cook on low overnight- the apples should cook down and then i use a stick blender to break it up - i did learn that you shouldn't cook the apples all the way down cause they overcook for applesauce- but it's the perfect start for apple butter- which I make the same with a little bit of nutmeg and ginger and just let cook for about 12 more hours- it is key to keep the cover of the crockpot tilted off a bit so that the steam can escape...I am horrible at recipes- sorry...
I LOVE this website too:
http://www.pickyourown.org/applebutter.htm
they have all kinds of really awesome recipes...colenichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01720284207829060045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5753097304568263004.post-47419448876827281902010-09-08T23:25:48.203-04:002010-09-08T23:25:48.203-04:00I am making this weekend after we visit the farmer...I am making this weekend after we visit the farmer's market - it sounds so good - Do you have a favorite recipe? Any hints perhaps? I eat a ton of applesauce but would rather make my own. YAY! We will freeze the excess tho' as I am not canning right now. Thanks!SkippyMomhttp://www.skippymom.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.com
